Pearland man charged in bingo hall raid

A Pearland man who built a small fortune running a bingo hall in South Houston is accused of being the kingpin in an illegal gaming crime ring and stands to lose more than $2.5 million in assets.

Robert Edwin Jones, 68, was arrested along with a dozen other suspects following a raid at the Paradise Day and Night Bingo Hall located at 1520 College Avenue on Aug. 17.

Following the arrests, Harris County District Attorney Devon Anderson and investigators from the Harris County Sheriff’s Department held a press conference and told reporters that they had also discovered hidden rooms and an underground bunker where cash and a large arsenal of guns were kept.
